Youth in Philanthropy is inviting YOU to our third nationwide retreat - a space just for under-35s working across philanthropy and local government.
This retreat is a 2-night, 3-day escape to connect, reset, and rise together.
If you’re craving deep kōrero, space to reflect, good kai, walks on the beach, some practical skills-building, and a chance to be surrounded by other young people doing values-aligned mahi across the motu - then this is 100% for you.
The theme this year is Rooted & Rising - a celebration of who we are, where we’ve come from, and where we’re heading. Join us as we anchor ourselves in purpose, and grow into the leaders, changemakers, and collaborators our communities need.
Workshops and activities shaped by your experiences, ideas, and strengths.
Pause, reset, and look after your hauora in a supportive environment.
Practical tools, insights, and conversations to support your growth and impact.
Our two previous retreats have brought young people working in philanthropy together to step away from the day-to-day, make new connections, and reflect on their mahi. They've offered a mix of downtime, discussion, and peer-led sessions in a relaxed setting.
"This was a space where you could really be yourself"
- 2023 Retreat attendee
This retreat is for people under 35 who are actively working or volunteering in philanthropy, funding, or grantmaking. This includes (but isn’t limited to):
- People working at philanthropic trusts or grantmaking organisations
- Kaimahi at support agencies or networks that help funders do their work
- Community members on youth or participatory grant panels
- Corporate advisors involved in ESG or social investment
- Individuals who contribute their own financial resources to philanthropic causes or lead giving initiatives
If you're connected to the funding space and this kaupapa speaks to you, we'd love to have you there.
We're working on the agenda at the moment, but you can expect a mix of group-based professional and personal development, guest speakers, peer-led sessions, and plenty of space to be on your own as well as connect with others.
There’s a sliding scale from $150 (subsidised) to $400 (the full value of the retreat), although we can offer support if cost is a barrier. We don’t want money to be the reason you can’t come.
Transport is your own responsibility. We can help with transport between Auckland Airport and the venue if needed.
Definitely more retreat. It’s relaxed, participatory, and shaped by the people in the room.
We’ve gone with Thursday–Saturday to give people a chance to step out of the work week without taking too many days off, and still have part of the weekend free to rest or catch up with whānau.
We’ll send a packing list closer to the time - but generally, bring comfy clothes and anything that helps you feel at ease. Bedding is provided.
Absolutely. Lots of people come not knowing anyone - and leave with new connections. We’ll make sure you feel welcomed and included.
We’ll be staying at Vaughan Park in shared rooms (either single or twin configurations with single beds). We’ll do our best to accommodate preferences and make sure everyone’s comfortable.
All meals are provided, and we cater to dietary needs.
